Nothing is Free

As a follow-up to the post I wrote this weekend about the current state of the healthcare system, I wanted to share a link to an article I just read over at Yahoo that echos some of what I was saying:

Disastrous Obamacare exchanges just tip iceberg

Holly over at Club Thrifty has also written a few great posts detailing exactly how the Affordable Care Act is affecting coverage for her family of 4:

I know, I know, you’re probably sick of reading about the Affordable Care Act by now. But it seems like a lot of what I’ve been seeing has been all rainbows and roses: Everyone qualifies for coverage! Free routine exams! Free birth control! Maternity coverage for all! As my mother would say, Nothing in life is free. Okay, so I won’t pay anything at the pharmacy when I pickup my monthly pills. Or at the doctor’s office when I get my physical. But I’d hardly call doubled premiums and high deductibles *free*. You’re basically just paying for it on the front end. And you’re paying for it whether you use it or not.
