I’m Off!

A few weeks back it occurred to me: I have 13 vacation/sick days left, and not much time to use them! The company I work for has a “use it or lose it” policy when it comes to paid time off. At the end of 2013 all those days would disappear. Granted, there’s still just over 4 months left this year. But the way my workload runs, I prefer to not take time off during the first 2 weeks of the month. I can’t take off in October, since that’s when our annual audit takes place. And late November/early December I’ll be spending most of my time working on annual certifications for the company. Taking in to consideration the days my coworkers will be taking off, that doesn’t leave many days to choose from!

With that in mind, I started scheduling some days off. I’ve got a mini-vacation planned with the boyfriend for the Holiday weekend. I’m trying to plan a long weekend with my older sister and mom. And I’m officially off today and tomorrow! This is the first job I’ve ever had where you’re actually expected to use your vacation days. I definitely want to take advantage of that, and not leave anything on the table.

I’d love to say this weekend is going to be a nice, relaxing break, but this girl’s got things to do! I’m hoping to have a yard sale this Saturday. Which means I need to do some cleaning and organizing today and tomorrow. If things go my way, I’ll also have time to get some other things done around the house. It’s looking like its going to be a hot one this weekend, which kinda limits me to mainly indoor activities. Especially if I’ll be outside all day Saturday.

With any luck, but the end of this weekend I’ll have both a cleaner, more organized home, and a fatter wallet. Most likely any money I make this weekend will be invested back into the house. I’d like to really get moving on getting things in order, so then I can talk to a Realtor, find out where I really stand on my house. We’ll see how that goes!

How do you typically use your vacation time?
